Story left out ACT improvements by Xavier
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 31, 2013 11:55 am
Excellent educational opportunities and high academic achievement abound in the Corridor. On Monday's (Aug. 26) editorial page, under the “Homers” section, there was reference to the high scores of local high school students' performance on the ACT test. There was passing mention that “Cedar Rapids Xavier improved slightly.”
However, a casual reader would not know that because Xavier, for some reason, was not mentioned in the main news article about ACT scores that appeared in the Aug. 21 Gazette (“Iowans top ACT national trends”). To set the record straight, Xavier's ACT score was 24.3. But the amazing statistic is that 98 percent of students at Xavier took the exam. In the future, a complete reporting on all the local schools would be appreciated.
