Stop and think before spending money

Our City Council must get some priorities straightened out. We still have a lot of flood-affected residents without homes, or with homes that they are still paying mortgages on, but their homes are not fit to be lived in. We hear about wanting to get funding to build a Community Center, trails and other things we can wait on. First, let's help get all of these flood-affected homes torn down or refurbished.
Why can't we refurbish the Ground Transportation Center, the old library and some of the other flooded city buildings instead of building new ones?
We also hear that property taxes should be raised. Hey, we are in a recession and a lot of people are barely getting by. Retired people aren't getting a cost of living raise this year, a lot of companies are freezing wages. Council, stop and think before spending money we don't have on things that we don't need now.
Also, don't be in a big hurry to tear down the Sinclair smokestack. This is a landmark for all of the Cedar Rapidians who were raised here.
