State constitution OK; no need for convention
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Oct. 9, 2010 2:14 pm
Every decade, Iowans are asked to vote on a state constitutional convention. Iowa's current leadership (Sen. Majority Leader Mike Gronstal/House Speaker Pat Murphy) have refused to let us vote on a marriage amendment and have attempted to tamper with our right to work. A convention would allow this same leadership to draw up a new constitution that could very well be written to advance their own agendas. This would not be in the best interests of the people nor our state.
Our present constitution works and we don't need a new one. Instead, what we really need is more responsible leaders who will obey the constitution and will protect our liberties. The same is true of our federal government and U.S. Constitution.
If you value your freedoms, vote “no” on a constitutional convention.
