Spend less, and tax schemes not needed
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Cedar Rapids City Council members now charge any non-Cedar Rapidian of de facto theft from the coffers by working, shopping or merely driving within its limits. And so there was a suggestion to employ a use tax upon visitors to your great city. I can only guess the books will be balanced by the end of the fifth season.
Not that Iowa City's leaders don't come up with their cockamamie schemes for raising revenue (effective taxes), but how many people drive here from out of town to work at the university? This is a government entity that owns, and is always absorbing more, city and county property and is tax-exempt. I hope our leaders don't pick up on this one now.
While I should applaud all our civic leaders for their imaginative ideas in solving fiscal issues, the ultimate and obtuse intent of our governments has become spending more, and hence, taxing more. Applause on this one for comedic relief only.
