Speed limit sign should be larger

To the editor:
Many letters have been printed about the speed cameras. I wonder if I can add something to the subject.
As I looked at a picture of the speed limit sign in the paper recently, it occurred to me that the sign is quite small. Yes, I have seen it, but with busier traffic, drivers might be too distracted driving to notice the sign.
If the city fathers are interested in safety rather than income, the sign should be at least four times the size. And I think it would help to have another sign 1/4 mile before that sign. If Department of Transportation regulations forbid this, perhaps they would give a variance to make traffic safer. Maybe, at least, a second sign 1/4 mile earlier.
