Some more radical ideas for camera usage
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Having watched the “cam ban” legislative debate, it may be time to expand the Cedar Rapids camera surveillance. After seeing how well the cameras have worked in generating revenue and “promoting safety,” it may be time to expand cameras to public toilets - “potty cams.” Think of all the social good they would create!
First, the potty cams could help save the environment by limiting the amount of toilet paper used and water expended. Next is the amount of money saved from less TP and water usage.
The fines could be significant. (But we all know that is a tertiary motivation. It's for our own good.) A good place to start placing the cameras would be in all governmental buildings.
Don't worry about the privacy issues. As long as we are saving the environment and making our lives safer, a little governmental intrusion is a small price to pay.
