Slow down, respect bikers on road

I started riding my bicycle to work to save gas and wear and tear on my truck. A section of trail was closed, forcing me to ride on the highway, which is no problem except for those drivers with idiotic behavior.
I ride as close to the shoulder as possible to allow cars to go around me. People need to show respect to those riding bikes and oncoming cars. A number of cars passing me didn't even slow down, went halfway into the oncoming traffic lane, causing the oncoming traffic to hit the shoulder. I was surprised there wasn't a bad accident.
Why don't people slow down and think a little? I have no problem with cars going by me close as long as they are doing it carefully. Instead of putting other people's lives at risk, slow down and use your brain before you kill someone or yourself.
