Slow down on gravel roads near pedestrians

My family has been visiting the Eastern Iowa area for the last eight years during the summer. We love the beautiful landscape of the farms and the rolling hills. Being a flatlander from Florida, I find the hills challenging for running and walking my dog.
However, the beautiful landscape on gravel roads is also quite dangerous. Every time a vehicle approaches, the driver does not slow down and I find myself smothered in dust with small rocks hitting me from the tires.
It sure would be nice for all the gravel road drivers to slow down when approaching a pedestrian so we, too, can enjoy the road.
