Shutdown challenges democracy
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Oct. 14, 2013 1:27 pm
Democracy and majority rule is challenged with this shutdown. We cannot let a small minority undermine the congressional laws legally passed and upheld by the Supreme Court. There must be a clean vote to get the government working again.
People are suffering, hungry, sick. Roads decay. Public schools, universities, counties, cities, workers, mothers, have less money. Walmart, Kohl's, movie stars, sport stars, billionaires will not pay for infrastructure and general welfare that is needed from a government.
We need government, not the Tea Party holding government hostage over an issue already decided by Congress and the Supreme Court.
