Shriner parade worthwhile for all

Anyone who didn't travel to the Kirkwood Community College campus on Aug. 11 missed a wonderful all-Shrine parade!
It lasted about 1 1/2 hours and was full of fun and excitement. We parked our car, took our chairs and two puppies and didn't have to walk even 50 feet to be right beside the street where they were performing. Many of the Shriners came over to speak during the parade.
One Shriner even commented that he was happy that we brought our puppies, which thoroughly enjoyed the parade.
I'm only sorry that more people couldn't have made it out. We drove 45 miles to see it and it was well worth our time. My dad was a 60-plus-year Shriner in Cedar Rapids, so I wanted to honor him and instead we really honored ourselves by attending. Good job, Shriners!
