On May 10, AMVETS Riders Chapter 6 of Cedar Rapids hosted a motorcycle awareness ride from the American Legion in Marion to Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. Our goal: to raise awareness for our nation's veterans and to remind motorist and motorcycles alike to drive aware of each other and share the road.
I would like to thank the mayors of Cedar Rapids and Marion for proclaiming May 10 AMVETS & Motorcycle Awareness Day. On behalf of those in attendance of this ride, I also would like to extend a special thank you to the city of Marion and the Marion Police Department. You went above and beyond by volunteering officers to escort us safely through your town. With almost 60 motorcycles in attendance, your assistance allowed us to stay together as a group and your support ensured our safety through all the intersections in Marion. Thank you for showing your unwavering support for veterans and for promoting motorcycle safety and awareness in your communities.
Without the continued sacrifices of our nation's service members and veterans, the Fourth of July would be just another day in history. I encourage all Americans to continually say thanks to and show you're supporting our nation's service members and veterans, not just on the holidays. To my fellow veterans, I salute you.
