Shooting is a sport
The Gazette Opinion Staff

In response to the recent assault weapons ban talk, let me make a few things clear. I fired an M16 in the Army and now, that I am out, fire an AR15. I guarantee you that both of these rifles are two of the greatest inventions in the history of weapons.
If you ever get the chance to operate one of these modern marvels or any type of rifle, pistol or shotgun, I guarantee you will fall in love with our sport of shooting.
Have you ever bump fired an AK47 from the hip? Have you ever hit a target 300 meters out with an AR on iron sights? These are extremely fun and that is what our sport is all about, fun. A lot of you forget what that means.
Shooting is a sport and just as in any other sport, we demand the latest, greatest and best technology the world can give us so we can become the best we can be in this elitist sport of target shooting.
