Shey's actions should be commended
Nov. 29, 2009 12:32 am
I am a regular viewer of city council meetings, and there is no member who has held themselves to higher ethical standards than Pat Shey. Like most council members, he has used the ethics board as it was intended: to seek guidance of possible conflicts of interest before taking a vote. Equally important, Shey has followed board guidance to the letter.
Yet Jerry McGrane, the Saturday before the Nov. 3 city election, lied and distorted Shey's above-the-board approach to possible conflicts, alleging that Shey was “brought before the ethics board,” implying gross misconduct on Shey's part, suggesting that he cannot be trusted.
These tactics are deplorable and have no place in a city council race. Shey has acted appropriately and ethically in all matters before the Council, and should be commended, not condemned.
