Set aside hate and do what’s best for country

Rogette Huntington, a self-proclaimed conservative and a schoolteacher from West Des Moines, summed up the attitude that has prevented our nation from moving forward and solving its problems.
I quote from an article printed in the Nov. 20 edition of The Gazette. Referring to Republican candidates, “I liked some, but really impassioned? No. What I am really impassioned about is getting the thing that we have occupying our White House out the door.”
Democrats and Republicans both have good ideas on how to move this country forward, but hate and lack of respect stand in the way of compromise. It is my hope that all Americans of all political persuasions will truly listen to each other and act for the greater good of the country.
The biggest mistake made after we were attacked 10 years ago is that only the soldiers and their families were asked to sacrifice. As a result, our credit card payment is due, and collectively, we all have to figure out how to pay off this debt and still move our country forward. Hate is not the answer.
