Sen. Grassley's logic is way off
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Congratulations, Sen. Chuck Grassley. You did it. No background checks. You even voted against debate. Now you are floating a “substitute bill” with no chance of passage.
There is no difference between getting a background check to get a commercial driver's license and to purchase a gun. Which is more dangerous, a driver's license or a gun? Your logic is way off. Do you represent Iowa or the National Rifle Association? You could have voted yes like your constituents wanted you to and let your cohorts in the House kill the bill. No, you stood on principle.
Just like you voted to nominate Jeff Sessions to be a federal judge. He failed to get accepted because it was revealed he thought the KKK was a good organization.
Just like you stood on principle on the Affordable Care Act. Get everything you want in negotiations, which cripples the bill, and then vote no on your compromise.
I do not know who is worse: you or Steve King. At least he is out front with his “views.”
