Self-regulation, liberty core founders’ beliefs
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The Feb. 28 letter to the editor “Tea partiers sound more like anarchists” contained two specific comments that are antithetical to the vision of our Founding Founders. The writer said, “ … individuals are not perfectly self-regulating” (as if government is), and “We have established a system that sacrifices liberty a bit to increase security ... .”
From our Founding Fathers:
“A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement … this is the sum of good government.” - Thomas Jefferson
“He who sacrifices liberty for security will lose both and deserves neither.” - Benjamin Franklin
Stop trying to reinvent the wheel of ideal government to make yourself feel intelligent. If you disagree with me, you're obviously a racist.
