SEATS connects people, community
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 2, 2013 10:37 am
It has been my privilege to use Johnson County SEATS as my main means of transportation to be an active and contributing member of this community for 17 years.
SEATS is providing close to 500 trips a day and the requests are growing. The ridership is diverse. SEATS serves individuals with mental illness, physical disabilities and cognitive limitations, and the elderly. This transportation is an integral part of our community in linking people with unique needs to jobs, recreation and services.
The people of Iowa City and Johnson County pay a high amount of taxes to live in and enjoy this progressive and diverse community. Dismantling such a coordinated service would greatly impact the quality of life for many people who use it and their families, friends and supporters. SEATS is interwoven with the rest of the support system that exists in the Iowa City/Coralville area for people with disabilities. We need to preserve such a well-organized, coordinated and experienced program.
Please sign the Save our SEATS online petition at signon.org/sign/save-johnson-county-seats. The petition will be presented to the Iowa City Council, Coralville City Council and Johnson County Board of Supervisors.
