School seclusion settlement leaves plenty to be desired

Not one of the administrative cures for restraint and seclusion in the Cedar Rapids Community School District included more help for the teachers. Rather, let’s give them more training, adopt policies and procedures and, of course, hire more administrators to oversee the teacher and staff use of restraints.
How about putting more teaching bodies in the classroom? Oh, that would take funds. How about calling Mom and Dad to the school to handle their disruptive students? Just think of the lost hundreds of hours of instruction time while teachers are supervising disruptive students.
And of course Big Daddy, the Department of Justice, will be watching.
