Schizophrenic impulses very difficult to resist
The Gazette Opinion Staff

As a person who has paranoid schizophrenia, I would like to speak on behalf of Mark Becker. The impressions in your mind (I did not hear voices) are sometimes so strong that you cannot resist them. I cannot emphasize how compelling the feeling is to follow through with your actions.
Despite this, you can still have your ordinary mind to know you need to grasp a gun to follow through with your compulsion. I did a number of things I would find repulsive ordinarily when my mental illness was active. And medication is another issue, it doesn't necessarily always offer relief from symptoms.
