Saying one thing and doing another

If I can't sell my vote for any elected official, how come they can? Since some elected officials held out for more goodies for their states (in health care reform bill), they sold their vote. To be honest, the more their state gets, the more likely people are to vote that elected official back into office.
Since members of Congress get free health care and good salaries at a time most of us don't have either, we basically paid them off.
To make it even worse, everyone says it is how things are done. Done where - in some foreign corrupt government where privileged few get the things they want?
We have Americans dying for a democracy, one where all people are treated equal - that is unless you live in a state with a stubborn elected official. Then you will find you have more perks because he/she is willing to sell themselves for your state.
It makes me honestly ashamed to be an American - it shows the world we say one thing and then do another.
