Save us from the self-righteous in Iowa City

The goings on at Columbia and other universities since 10/7 regarding Israel have been something of an abstraction for me until now. However, reading Rabbi Rebecca Kushner's guest column (“Iowa City Gaza resolution misidentifies problem” Aug. 19) in The Gazette shattered that calm. With a sick-making feeling I realized that the heretofore unthinkable is happening here, in our own isolated community. Can anyone, anywhere save us from the smug, self-righteous group think that turns helpless victims into evil?
