After the derecho in 2020 State Auditor Rob Sand was in Cedar Rapids the next day with his chain saw. He was up in the trees cutting hanging limbs and cutting the large branches into manageable logs and loading them into trucks. Also on the ground helping was Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer, just days after her wedding.
In the last few months western Iowa was hit by tornadoes and devastating flooding. Rob Sand has been in those communities almost daily filling sandbags, clearing debris, and delivering food. The Iowa Republican politicians have been all over social media with their “thoughts and prayers” and shown up for their standard photo ops and then they’re off on the campaign trail again.
Rob Sand has been helping Republicans, Independents, and Democrats. He appears to be a man of great integrity and a very strong Christian faith. He takes to heart the “help thy neighbor,” “feed the poor,” and “do unto others.” Unlike the Iowa Republican officials he walks the talk!
It’s no surprise that Sand, the only elected Democrat in a leadership position in Iowa, is the most trusted and respected politician in our state. I truly hope that if it works out for his young family, Rob Sand will run for either governor or attorney general of Iowa!
