Sales tax break on tree removal is needed

As everyone knows, the hurricane-force winds of the derecho destroyed thousands of trees in and around Cedar Rapids. Upon getting bids for tree removal from our property, we became aware that we are also obligated to pay the state 7 percent sales tax. That adds over $1,000 to the cost of removal. Like many others, we are older adults who have a limited income, and this is an extra burden for an event that was unforeseen or unplanned.
Given the scope of this disaster and the costs associated with the cleanup we believe the state could and should temporarily dismiss the sales tax on tree removal.
Please help to bring the governor's and your state representative's attention to this unnecessary burden for so many people who must reach deep into any savings they have (possibly depleting them) or even have to take out loans.
