Sales tax best way to pay for flood protection

Cedar Rapids has not been my home for long, but it is the place that I want to live. The people I have gotten to know show as much or more passion for this community's past, present and future as any other place I have lived.
Cedar Rapids' future is bright, and a crucial step comes with a “yes” vote on March 6 to support funding flood protection on both sides of the river. The flood of 2008 took a lot out of this community. We must protect ourselves from the devastation of another flood.
I don't live in the flood zone, but I'm putting my money on the line to help the community as a whole. I am voting “yes” because extending the local-option sales tax is the best way to supply the local match needed for state and federal funding.
CREST (Cedar Rapids Extended Sales Tax) was formed to bring a straightforward issue before Cedar Rapids voters - extending the local-option tax solely for flood protection. I support their goal and efforts. It is the right step for us to take.
