Safety goal of the speed cameras

To the editor:
I believe that the intention of the speed cameras was to slow down traffic on the S-curve and prevent accidents and deaths, which it has done. If it has saved one life, it is worth it, but I'm sure after seeing the amount of violations and income there was no looking back.
I think the Department of Transportation should be more proactive in getting more of a warning. Instead of posting how many deaths last year on the lighted sign, they should post how many camera violations there were last year. Also, big signs every quarter of a mile starting a mile out warning about the cameras because maybe more people would slow down and that is the goal.
Until then I think more of the blame should fall on the DOT for not willing to put up more of a warning about the cameras, because the DOT put that dangerous curve there in the first place and they are the ones who should be trying to make it safer, not the city.
