To the editor:
The Gazette published a Washington Post story discussing a massive voter database leak in which personal information about registered voters were revealed, nationwide. An article on the KCRG-TV9 website states (http://tinyurl.com/hzogtwt) that Linn County Auditor Joel Miller has provided a list of all the people, since 2009, who have requested the voter database within Linn County. Kudos to Miller for letting voters know who has their information.
More so, Miler has posted on the auditor's Web page, not only the list of requesters, but also a sufficient demographic breakdown of the voters in Linn County, such that specific voter information may not always be needed (http://tinyurl.com/zrgvmf4).
The rest is now up to Secretary of State Paul Pate, to ensure both the security of the database and to provide the minimum information possible, such that our privacy is not at risk when we register to vote.
