Safe haven, patrols in Syria needed
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Apr. 7, 2012 11:39 am
It's clear Assad has no intention in stopping the killing in Syria until all protesters and their children are dead. He has agreed to three cease-fires, which he immediately ignored.
Our three strongest allies in the Middle East want immediate support for the protesters. Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar want to arm the Free Syrian Army to establish safe havens and resumption of no-fire lanes to allow medical and food to reach all civilians in embattled cities.
We must immediately declare a safe haven extending for 30 miles south of the Turkey border. We must start 24/7 fixed-wing and drone patrols along this 30 miles of Syrian's northern border territory, attacking all Syrian tanks, artillery, mortars, trucks and troop carriers within this safe-haven zone. Hellfire missiles will have much more influence on Assad than words.
