Sadness with 15 years of Huisentruit missing
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jun. 30, 2010 12:57 am
I worked with Jody Huisentruit (former KIMT-TV, Mason City, anchorwoman who disappeared 15 years ago) during her years with KGAN CBS 2 in Cedar Rapids. She was filled with life and enthusiasm and really wanted to make it in broadcasting.
She wasn't necessarily interested in becoming a star but genuinely was interested in people and made friendships with people she covered in the news.
The last time I saw her was for a gathering of reporters at the Long Branch. I remember she was saying how her car had a problem and the mechanics wanted to do all sorts of extra stuff that she didn't want done. She said, “I work hard for my money” and these guys just want to take it. She had a sort of small-town naivete about her that was charming.
Every June I have remembered, and like so many others, wonder. I think of all the life I have experienced in the last 15 years and it truly saddens me to think what Huisentruit has missed out on, along with the rest of what should have been a purposeful life.
God bless her.
