Rushed assessment led to loss of soccer fields

I had the opportunity to read the March 29 article regarding the loss of two soccer fields at Jones Park, which apparently will be replaced by baseball fields. I was surprised and disappointed by the opinions expressed by Mr. Marcelino Hivento and also, by the lack of opinions by those who actually use those fields.
It is important for people to know that Mr. Hivento's opinions are his own, not necessarily of the individuals who play soccer at Jones Park or a specific ethnic group.
Our group is made up of Hispanic, African, European, Middle-Eastern, Asian and American soccer players. Our goal is to exercise, play the sport we love, enjoy our friendship and simply have a good time. It is common to see parents and their kids playing together, along with their extended family members. We share love for the sport and also the respect and appreciation for each other's background. I think this is the real story that needs to be told.
It would be very difficult for us to argue against a grant worth $150,000. My only complaint is that it appears that the Parks Department rushed to tear down the fields, before assessing the needs of the entities and individuals who use those fields.
