Rosenthal will address community concerns

To the editor:
I have been attending Cedar Rapids Community School District board meetings for many years. The CRCSD must change while retaining Ann Rosenthal as director at-large on the school board. She is the only member on the school board who will represent concerns raised by the community before votes are taken. She is willing to walk the line between representing the community and having a 'non-contentious board.” Having her professional background in engineering and facilities management is vital as the district continues to spend PPEL funds.
I like John Laverty; however, he should not be director at-large on the school board. He rubber stamps and defends all district requests and responds to community concerns with 'I have not heard that from any Washington parents.” This statement highlights his primary loyalty. As board president, his lead was instrumental in closing Polk while disrespecting the community when he limited public comment and rushed the vote without allowing any public board discussion. Also, having five board members who live in the Washington attendance area will not be beneficial to the overall school district. Rosenthal lives in the Kennedy attendance area and had children go to Kennedy and Washington high schools. Vote for Rosenthal.
