Romney better follows Jesus’ teachings

Jim Slitor's Sept. 7 letter, “Getting rich is not part of religious teachings,” as a support of President Barack Obama is confusing. Did he infer that Mitt Romney is rich enough that he will have a problem, but Obama is not rich enough to keep him from heaven?

Or can rich people get to heaven by doing good things, giving money and working in the church? Obama has done very little for the church - money or labor. Romney went on a two-year mission and he served people as a leader in the church.

Did Jesus say that the government should tax the rich to give it to the poor? Jesus talked about personal responsibility, not having the government do your job. Rich paying taxes to the government to give to the poor is probably not going to make it easier to get to heaven.

Jesus taught that you are given talents by God and if you do not use them or use them badly you will be judged on the results. So who will be better in the eyes of God? Romney, who served his church and used his talents to help others by the money he made and gave away? Or, Obama, who has a largely unknown record for service in the church and money giving.

If Obama followers try to attack Romney on who is a better follower of Jesus' teaching on a personal level, they lose.
