Rockwell Collins helped girls reach potential

I coach six middle school girls on a Girl Scout FIRST LEGO League team called the Flying Monkeys. The girls have been honored for the innovative prosthetic hand device they crafted for a Georgia girl. Like many FLL teams, ours received grants from Rockwell Collins. They understand that future engineers and innovators start with kids getting excited about science and technology.
How better to do that than through programs like FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) and Girl Scouts?
Rockwell Collins sponsored our girls (and many other teams), encouraged them and helped dreams become a reality. With their assistance, the girls were able to go to Washington, D.C., last year to meet the little girl they helped and her family and to accept the FLL Global Innovation Award.
This summer, Rockwell Collins helped get the girls to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after the U.S. Department of State invited them to speak at the United Nations' Rio +20 Side Events.
All kid deserves to tap their potential. Rockwell Collins helps make that possible. Cedar Rapids, you should be proud.
