Rising tuition leaves promising students out
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Throughout the nation, tuition costs for college students have been increasing dramatically. Inflation and the current state of the country's economy have forced colleges to annually raise tuition an average of about 8 percent for the last few years.
At the University of Iowa, tuition costs have increased 5 to 6 percent this year and it is expected for them to continue to increase at a similar rate.
In a time where the future of the United States is uncertain, fostering a generation of well-educated citizens is the most important thing we can do. Every time the cost of postsecondary education rises, a section of young men and women are dissuaded or unable to obtain higher education.
We are losing valuable students. We should not limit who can and who cannot get a successful education.
