In January Gov. Kim Reynolds spoke about expanding Iowa's energy strengths by forming a nuclear energy task force, stating “Invest in Iowa, and you won’t regret it.” The industry is still waiting, as am I. So far it's been only two county governments doing this nuclear prep-work in Iowa: Linn and Woodbury.
Among U.S. states it seems Texas is the nuclear leader with Gov. Abbott naming a Director of Advanced Nuclear Energy Office just last month. This director will oversee multiple efforts to develop and expand nuclear.
Also last month, Gov. Little of Idaho signed an executive order establishing the Idaho Advanced Nuclear Energy Task Force. At his side was Utah Gov. Cox stating “If you truly care about the environment, you have to be pro nuclear.” Gov. Gordon of Wyoming joined them by signing a regional MOU.
At the National Governors Association in June a nuclear briefing highlighted that almost 30 states have taken action to advance nuclear energy, including Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Connecticut.
Where is Iowa's effort? If we are very quiet, perhaps we can still hear Gov. Reynolds' excellent words of intention still echoing from her Condition of the State Address.
