Reynolds’ comments on “two-tiered” justice system raise issue of system’s real tiers

I commend Governor Reynolds and other Republican officials for raising the issue of this country’s patently unfair two-tier justice system. It is a system where black and brown Americans are incarcerated at nearly 5 times the rate of white Americans, and where 35 percent of the individuals executed by the death penalty are Black, while making up just 13.4 percent of the population. It is heartening to hear former “law and order” politicians now crying about the need to correct the injustices of this system.
