Revisit downtown Marion project later

In Marion, the fuss is about gaining community approval for a multimillion-dollar project to revamp the downtown district. I must ask businesses if and how much business did they lose when the bypass was opened. People who have been shopping at these businesses for years will continue to do so.
I'm sure since you are hard at work you haven't driven through downtown Marion around 5 or 6 p.m. It's an accident waiting to happen, with cars attempting the parallel park, and pedestrians dodging through traffic. Afraid of your business closing because of fewer drivers stopping? Businesses that are thriving will continue to do so.
Cities grow and cities need to change to adapt to that growth.
I agree something needs to be done, but I also agree there are better ways of spending the $11 million at this point. Maybe a few years from now we can revisit this topic. Until then, detour up Highway 100, or take Eighth and Sixth streets to Blairs Ferry or Marion Boulevard
