Rettig well-suited to supervisor’s role
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 7, 2009 11:50 pm
I am enthusiastic about Janelle Rettig's abilities and experience, as well as her personal qualities that would make her well-suited for the Johnson County Board of Supervisors. The special election for the short, unexpired term is Jan. 19.
First, she is currently working at the job, having been appointed to the term by a statutory committee of the county auditor, treasurer, and recorder. She will run in November, 2010, for a four-year term.
Second, Janelle has a long history of civic engagement and service to both major political parties, from staff assistant to former Congressman Jim Leach to the campaigns of Sally Stutsman and Sen. Joe Bolkcom. She serves on the Iowa Natural Resources Commission and chairs the Iowa City Airport Commission. She has owned a local small business, and chaired the successful referendum for the county conservation bond issue.
Janelle is a person of great integrity and common sense, above board in her relations with others. She will be conscientious, fair, reasonable and civil in conducting public business. What more can we ask for in a public official?
