Restaurant patrons grateful for surprise

To the editor:
Recently, my family and I were eating out in Cedar Rapids. It hadn't been planned, but because of the rain our veteran's picnic had been canceled at the last minute. We lingered a little longer than usual because we were discussing a family issue. When we asked for the check, the waitress informed us that our lunch had been paid for by another customer who had already left. We were both surprised and grateful.
Unable to thank them, I decided to write The Gazette and hopefully publicly thank them. God is good. During our situation, God had blessed us through these other patrons. I have heard of the pay it forward craze and have done it myself, but never felt that it would be reciprocated. Thank you so much from the McFarlands.
