Republicans run up deficits, then complain
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Aug. 2, 2009 12:46 am
Here's how Republicans operate: Run up huge deficits by providing tax cuts for the rich and no-bid government contracts to huge corporations. Then hoot and holler about deficits when the opposition comes into power, shifting the blame onto Democrats, who unfairly have the responsibility to fix the mess and poverty created under Republican rule. They position themselves for the next election cycle by posing as fiscal conservatives.
Once they get back into power, Republicans will cut social spending, pensions and funding for public education and resume the pillaging of our nation's resources. We'll see even more tax cuts for the rich and corporate giveaways and subsidies. This means, of course, there isn't anything left for the rest of us.
