Republicans politicizing terror as scare tactic
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 1, 2010 11:40 pm
If an underwear bomb means we're not safe under Barack Obama, does a shoe bomb mean George Bush didn't really keep us safe after 9/11?
Why doesn't the media ask this question of Republicans who are now criticizing President Obama? Sadly, probably never. If Democrats say the sky is blue and Republicans say it is red, the media report both claims as potentially valid.
Obama is not personally responsible for operations at the Amsterdam airport. What's important to see here is the GOP's unprecedented politicization of a terror attack. It sees terrorism primarily as a tool to use in American domestic politics. Scare tactics are one of their few ways to earn votes from non-millionaires.
