Republicans not fanatics to worry about country
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Dec. 12, 2009 11:30 pm
Republicans now a party of fanaticism? Rewarding Republicans who are wealthy enough not to work? I am glad Arnold Levitt (Dec. 8 letter) has a job. He should consider himself fortunate. Unemployment rate at 10.2 percent (October), higher than since the 1980s. With a Democratic administration spending trillions of dollars to get the economy going, and unemployment rising to 10.2 percent under this administration, well, yes, blame the Republicans. Maybe some Republicans do not work. Why? Because they worked hard and earned it.
Levitt calls Republicans fanatics because we worry about how our country is going to pay off the debt that the Democrats are doing their best to run up. Also, since when does the government owe national health insurance to anyone? We are the government, and, as such, we will have to pay for it.
As a Republican, I do hope, for the sake of our country, that President Barack Obama does well. However, I think that it is only fair that I afford him all of the respect and criticism that the Democrats afforded former President George W. Bush.
