Republicans must stand up to disrespect
Bob Gilchrist
Feb. 4, 2022 2:38 pm
After five years of complete Republican Party control of Iowa government, it appears that they feel they can say anything (“sinister” teachers), propose any legislation they want (ban books in schools) and now direct any gestures they want toward the Iowa public in public (double middle finger). This sad and disgraceful behavior will not change until other Republicans publicly stand up and publicly say “No, this is not what we do in Iowa.” It has to be called out by the governor (Iowa nice), the speaker of the house (more Iowa nice) and rank and file Republicans who have honor. Saying and doing nothing is the same as saying “Oh, it’s OK.” Not standing up will encourage even stronger and more disrespectful behavior.
