Republicans gain from corporate tax cuts
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The March 14 letter titled “Why Democrats support public sector unions” takes a jab at Democrats supporting unions because they receive millions in campaign contributions from those unions. This is certainly the pot calling the kettle black. Republicans give corporations and the wealthy billions in tax cuts because they receive millions and millions in campaign contributions in return. Then these Republicans claim that, with reduced tax revenues caused by those tax cuts, they cannot balance state budgets because public sector employees' pay and benefits are too high.
This is what Republican Gov. Terry Branstad is claiming now. Funny, if Iowa is in such dire financial straits, why is Branstad pushing big tax cuts for corporations? Because corporations give big campaign contributions.
