Republicans fixing economy with Twinkies
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Mar. 16, 2010 12:53 am
On a recent Glenn Beck show on Fox News, he used props to explain our distressed economic situation. He arranged a number of Twinkies in piles, then started talking economics.
I was lost. I have a sweet tooth, and I was so fixated on those Twinkies I hardly heard a word he said. Then he wolfed down a couple of Twinkies, graphically solving one of our problems - the deficit, unemployment, banking or housing - something.
This was all amusing. And I took heart. If the Republicans think they can solve our economic woes by eating a couple of Twinkies, what do we Democrats have to fear?
But a few days later, it hit me. We Democrats are doomed. The Republicans have added Twinkies to their array of political weapons, and what do we Democrats have? Cupcakes? Ding Dongs? Nothing! Well, we do have Sarah Palin. Sort of.
When recently asked what caused the Republicans to lose the last election, she answered, “the economy.” No other Republican would admit the George Bush “tax cut for the rich” economy got us into this mess.
Thanks, Sarah, for your honesty.
You Twinkie.
