Republicans do anything to regain power

I am disillusioned with our political system. I don't remember anything remotely approaching the rabid partisanship going on today with the Republicans. They apparently are willing to do anything - including discarding good policy - for the sake of trying to get themselves back into power.
Witness the health care reform debacle. We need meaningful reform, but the GOP has done everything to stop it. Is this truly the last desperate gasp from the Grand Old Party?
