Repair city streets leading to downtown

After reading and agreeing with the letter from Stella Siver ('Make condition of C.R. roads a priority,” July 6), I decided to write.
To get downtown to the nice streets, we have to travel on some of the worst streets I have ever been on. Yet for some reason (I suspect knowing the right people on the City Council), streets like McCarthy Road SE and 14th Avenue SE have been redone with our local option taxes at work, but the streets leading to them are horrible; i.e., 12th Avenue SE, Memorial Drive SE and 42nd Street SE.
McCarthy is an example of a waste of money. There was nothing wrong with the paving, but now it has been widened with new curbing. Two bike lanes were added and resurfaced, and there are two homes on that street. Why? This waste is why nothing is being done for the streets leading into downtown.
It is nice to see the progress done downtown, but that does not impress when your car is torn apart trying to get there.
