Renovating bridge should not be priority
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The Nov. 23 article, “Sutliff Bridge bids lower than expected,” was very upsetting! Johnson County Board of Supervisors, where are your priorities? How can you even consider spending $2 million to renovate a bridge that goes nowhere? History you say? At what cost?
Our government is in debt. Where will the money come from? From the people's taxes, that's where. The Federal Emergency Management Agency offered a big chunk. They get their money from our taxes. I would certainly rather see FEMA give more money to the people who lost everything to the flood than to a bridge to nowhere.
On the page across from the Sutliff Bridge article was the article “Report shows growing number of Iowans are going hungry.” Wake up! Let's get our priorities back on track!
