Renewable energy needs stable funds
The Gazette Opinion Staff

The Gazette is absolutely right. Wind power is here to stay. Thanks to Congress' belated renewal of the wind production tax credit, which was allowed to expire last year, but got new life in January, prospects and productivity in this energy sector are picking up again.
The March 24 article “Wind power here to stay” effectively highlights the progress and perils of this essential energy source. And as the article warns, the credit could disappear again depending on the outcome of federal budget negotiations, leaving wind power manufacturers uncertain about their future.
Imagine how much safer, more secure and more sustainable our energy future might be if the massive subsidies for the fossil fuel industry were reinvested in renewable wind and solar energy production and to upgrade our obsolete energy grid.
