Remington is a solid Democrat

My name is Mika Jayne Covington. I’m a Democrat supporting Mandi Remington for Johnson County supervisor.
I became an Iowan and Iowa Democrat in 2012 because Iowa protects transgender people. I’ve put in countless hours volunteering and working for different Democrats, from President Barack Obama to Staci Appel to Sen. Bernie Sanders. I’ve served as a member of the Pottawattamie, Polk, and Johnson County Democratic Party central committees. Also at my local college, I created a college Democrats club.
I know a solid Democrat when I see one. Mandi is a solid Democrat. She has the experience and dedication it takes to lift up the voices of the working class.
Mandi is a single parent, a domestic violence survivor, and a non-profit leader. She’s dedicated to ensuring everyone has their basic human needs met, including affordable housing, healthcare, childcare, and food security.
As a transgender woman, I know that Mandi has my back because she took time from her work nearly weekly to go to the state capitol and advocate for trans and nonbinary people, especially trans children. But she didn’t just lobby against the state’s hateful legislation. She helped carry the energy forward, to fight when Governor Kim Reynolds refused federal funding to boost food aid over the summer. Fighting the hate directed against people like me shows solidarity, but few would be committed enough to sacrifice further on the spot.
