My name is Christie and I’m a teaching assistant, DEI director, local board member, and Ph.D. student at the University of Iowa’s School of Social Work.
Mandi Remington and I have known one another for 20-some-odd years and growing; and something happens when you’ve known someone for more than half of your lifetime — you witness their many triumphs, trials, and tribulations.
By no means am I here to tell stories that aren’t mine to tell but two things are true about Mandi. First, she has found herself in the helping role across time. Whether it was friends, her own family, or the community at large, she has been a carer — a nurturer. She has put roofs over heads, given parents the opportunity to work through child care, and fed and clothed our most vulnerable populations.
Second, with every upset and misfortune that she’s experienced, she has come out stronger — more confident. Happiness and hardships alike have shaped the human before us. And while I’d never wish hardships on anyone, her transformation has been beautiful to witness.
She’s a woman who I know is more than capable of representing our community. As an activist, community organizer, and professional, she has left an imprint on this county and I know she has the fervor we need to make equitable change in Johnson County.
Thank you for your time and lending me your hearts and minds. Please join me in supporting Mandi Remington for Johnson County Supervisor.
